All the benefits of thermo treatment – finally
applied to a natural exotic timber.
Only Plato®wood makes it possible! Plato®wood Fraké is
an exotic knot-free wood
species sourced from FSC certified forests. Plato’s unique two stage
thermal process
dramatically improves the service life and dimensional stability of this
abundant wood
species in a clean and sustainable way. A responsible solution that will
give you many years of enjoyment.
Plato® Wood is ideal for use
for civil engineering and water related applications. Its high durability
and resistance to biological infestation have been tried and tested
and independent research indicates that its durability is class 1.
As the wood is fully thermally treated, processing such as sawing, planning,
milling and drilling do not affect its durability at all. The wood also
retains its shape and stability so that less fixing is necessary. This
reduces the costs of assembly and maintenance. What’s more, no chemicals
are used during the Plato® process – only water and very little
energy. This makes the product extremely environmentally friendly, as well
as clean and durable. Even in later phases of its useful life, Plato® Wood
can become economically profitable when used for recycling or energy
generation. Coming from renewable and FSC certified sources, the environmental
impact of its full use cycle is therefore noticeably less than any other
civil engineering product.
Plato®Wood is a thermally modified timber.
THERE ARE TWO METHODS OF THERMAL MODIFICATION:
- Heating at high temperatures
- Platonising at low temperatures
Platonising at low temperatures provides better results as the resulting end
product retains its cell structure and thus all its good qualities. In fact,
it even acquires a few better qualities as you’ll see below. No other thermally
modified wood can therefore compare with Plato®Wood. |
