A. J. Smith and Son (Benfleet) Ltd are timber importers / merchants
and machinists of timber. The company is based in the South
East of the UK. We major on timber from renewable sources
in Scandinavia and South America. As we have been established
since 1897 we have reliable sources for the timber we import
and supply to our customers.
For over one hundred years we have
supplied timber to builders, shed manufacturers, landscapers
and many other trades. We are also able to provide Osmose
Pressure Treated timber from our own timber treatment plants.
Whilst other timber companies outsource
their milling to overseas operations, we still machine
our own softwood timber here in the UK.
We keep in regular contact with our
timber supply companies in the producing countries, to ensure
continuity of supply and quality of timber for our customers.
A.J. Smith and Son (Benfleet) Ltd is
the timber supply company of choice for many loyal customers
we like the opportunity of quoting for your timber requirements.

People are more familiar
with seeing slate roof tiles in the UK on their
homes and private dwellings. However, other types
of roofing materials are available to buy which
can be just as effective at deterring the worst
weather conditions. Western Red Cedar
Shingles are just one of the products that
can insulate and protect a home for the harshest
of environments. These beautiful Cedar
Shingles are very strong products that can
withstand winds of up to 245mph. When the storms
start breaking out over the winter months any home
that has Cedar
Shingles fitted will be a home that`s well
protected. Not only can Cedar
Shingles withstand winds of the ferocious varieties,
they can also stand rain by the bucketfuls and
any number of pounding by hailstones. Cedar
Shingles have a high aesthetic value and they
can make private dwellings look charming.
Turning your garden into
an all-year-round area is easy when you install durable Decking as
part of a garden theme. Patio areas were once popular
and they incorporated stone flags as their base but
over recent years Decking has
become incredibly popular and many gardens now benefit
from this type of timbered product. Television programmes
like Ground Force are no doubt responsible for the
initial popularity in Decking as
more and more home owners are introduced to this
very durable item. There are many types of Decking to
choose from and they can be treated with a variety
of preserving agents. Some customers like to opt
for the natural look with just a touch of deck oil
on the Decking whilst
others opt for stains of different colours. There
has been much speculation in recent times as to which
types of Decking is
best to look at.
We use Timber around
the home for a variety of purposes because it`s a
very useful natural resource. Our homes are literally
covered in Timber products
that make our lives more comfortable. We can have Timber shingles
on the roofs of our homes providing us with insulating
properties. They can keep out the rain and protect
us from the wind when the winter storms really start
to take hold. Using Timber as
window frames allows our homes to be blessed with
natural light and Timber window
frames add a little charm to the house`s overall
effect. Take a look around the inside of our modernistic
dwellings and you`ll see a whole host of Timber products.
Dining tables of magnificent proportions can be made
from the finest wood and doors and door frames can
be made from Timber of
the very highest order.
More and more people are
looking to add timber decking to their homes. Gardens
look stylish when using timber decking in place of
the traditional patio materials. There are many different
types of decking including hardwood timber decking
which is durable and very strong. Hardwood decking
does not require chemical preservative treatment
as the timber already has a natural resistance to
fungal decay. Another alternative is pressure treated
softwood timber decking which can be produced from
redwood softwood. It is worth noting that pressure
treated timber decking can have a green tint to the
colour which fades over time. Hardwood
Timber Decking comes in different colours. The
colour of the timber can range from dark brown to
an olive colour. Over time the hardwood timber decking
will change to a driftwood silver colour which is
rather attractive.
