The following information is intended as helpful guidance only and it is of course entirely up to our customers how they use the decking we supply.
If the decked area is at ground level, you can stop the problem of unwanted vegetation growing through by clearing the site of weeds, etc and covering the area with 'Weed Blanket' e.g. G-tex, covered with gravel.
Ensure that the decking is dry before fitting.
Use fixings that are stainless steel, aluminium, brass or galvanised that will resist corrosion.
Leave a 3mm gap between boards.
Treated timber that is recut on site should have the exposed ends retreated with a suitable cut end preservative.
Decks can be stained with a suitable exterior product following the manufacturer guidelines.
Treated Timber Decking has been pressure treated with Osmose Preservative to give long term protection against fungal and insect attack, but if you want to further enhance the look and durability of your deck you can coat it with a water repellent or Seasonite.
Care for your decking - As the Osmose Preservative the timber is treated with gives no protection against surface moulds, it is wise to clean your decking periodically. There are products available that have been created for this purpose e.g. Cuprinol Deckcleaner.
Safety :- a) Wear gloves to avoid splinters when constructing.
b) Avoid inhaling a lot of sawdust
c) Do not dispose offcuts of treated timber by burning
The timber used for our decking :- An appropriate grade of redwood is used for the decking we produce, however it should be noted that timber is a natural product. Consequently some features that are sometimes considered defects are in fact inherent characteristics (e.g knots, pith, shake, etc).
